March 15, 2020 The World: We will be delaying everything you are currently obsessively stressing about. All deadlines are on hold. Please be on hold. You will be updated as soon as possible. Silence... So much fucking silence. For the first time in 20 years of living in NYC… there was silence. No calls, no emails, no Nothing. Beautiful nothing.
From the quiet came an awakening. I guess I felt present. Instead of needing to try to block out the sounds and busy-ness, I slowed down and could actually hear what was going on around me. I began noticing and beginning to truly see my neighborhood. The work I have built over these months has been the most honest and focused of my career. A grouping of objects that I happened upon on my six block journey from home to studio. These objects now archived tell the story of my experience from March 15 2020 to September 15 2020. For the last decade, the central theme of my work has been archiving found objects, objects that show a clear physical history of human interaction. I archive by meticulously hand-wrapping each object in a thick layer of felt. Captured, encased, and placed in concert, these disparate objects come together and breathe anew.
